UNC Pembroke & Carolina Small Business Partner to Provide Capital and Technical Assistance to Businesses and Entrepreneurs

September 11, 2017 / Janice Rojas / Press Releases

Community leaders collaborate to support small businesses including veteran-owned and small businesses affected by natural disasters.

(Raleigh, NC) – Carolina Small Business Development Fund (CSBDF) and The University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNC Pembroke) collaborate to provide entrepreneurs and small business owners with technical assistance, capital and incubation space.

CSBDF, a statewide nonprofit and financial institution that provides small business loans, is collaborating with the UNC Pembroke’s School of Business to support entrepreneurs in gaining access to capital, receiving technical assistance and expanding their business.

Through this partnership, UNC Pembroke and CSBDF will leverage the university’s Entrepreneurship Incubator space located in historical downtown Pembroke, to support small businesses and entrepreneurs in the area, including veterans, African American, minority and underserved communities. CSBDF will continue providing technical assistance and loan capital to small businesses affected by weather-related events (Hurricane Matthew, Tropical Storm Julia and Hermine).

“UNC Pembroke and CSBDF share a mutual commitment in helping and promoting entrepreneurship. Our partnership will support entrepreneurs and small business owners with technical assistance and capital, with a focus on helping veteran entrepreneurs as well as small businesses affected by Hurricane Matthew.  We hope to make a lasting impact by helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses as they create jobs and impact the economy,” said Lenwood V. Long, Sr., President/CEO of Carolina Small Business Development Fund.

“This exciting new partnership is one of many ways UNCP is committed to serving as the anchor economic institution in southeastern North Carolina,” said Dr. Barry O’Brien, dean of UNC Pembroke’s School of Business. “Through our collaborative efforts, we will continue to make a significant impact on the economy of our region, ultimately advancing our mission of Changing Lives Through Education.”

The School of Business at UNC Pembroke and CSBDF share the same mission of fostering economic development and promoting entrepreneurship. In their collaboration, their goal is to establish entrepreneurial programs that will help entrepreneurs, students and small businesses to start, grow and create jobs.

CSBDF will be housed at the UNCP Entrepreneurship Incubator located on 202 Main Street, Pembroke, NC 28372. The Incubator is designed to handle the needs of small to mid-sized companies, from the “napkin” stage to established companies, with a focus on high-growth that will create jobs, utilizing local strengths.
