Kevin Dick Appointed New CEO of Carolina Small Business Development Fund

Carolina Small Business Development Fund, a statewide community lender and nonprofit headquartered in Raleigh, has announced today that its Board of Directors has appointed Kevin Dick as the new President and CEO effective February 10, 2020.

Kevin Dick brings 23 years of experience with him to CSBDF as a senior economic and workforce development executive. He was most recently the Deputy Director of Economic Development for the City of Charlotte for nearly 4 years. In that role, he championed an equitable economic development and inclusion platform that included workforce development, neighborhood-based economic development, small business growth and capacity building. His recent accolades include launching an equitable workforce development initiative, known as the Partnership for Inclusive Employment and Career Excellence (PIECE). Project PIECE was recognized by the National League of Cities in 2018 for its contributions to cultural diversity.

Speaking on behalf of the board, W.A. Tony Hayes, Board Chair, said, “We are extremely pleased that Kevin will be a part of the CSBDF family! We feel that he is the right person at the right time for the organization and is looking forward to his strong leadership.”

Kevin has previously held senior management roles in economic and workforce development for urban municipalities such as the City of Durham, North Carolina and the City of Dania Beach Florida, as well as urban workforce development boards such as the Broward Workforce Development Board and Durham Workforce Development Board. His leadership experience includes management of a wide variety of public and non-profit sector initiatives related to small business promotion, entrepreneurship development, cultivating public/private partnerships, and fostering community redevelopment.

“I am excited to start with CSBDF and to take advantage of a wonderful opportunity to drive economic development by working with small businesses throughout the state. We have a unique chance to help those businesses capitalize on the growth that is taking place throughout North Carolina,” said Kevin Dick, “I am extremely pleased, humbled and honored to work with a knowledgeable board and talented staff as we fund and guide small businesses while performing high-level research to inform key stakeholders.”

With the appointment of Kevin Dick as CEO, CSBDF’s mission is even stronger, as it continues its mission of fostering economic development and providing small business loans to small businesses across the state. Since 2010, the nonprofit CDFI has invested more than $61.5 million through 749 loans to small businesses across North Carolina helping to create or retain more than 2,544 jobs.
