Kevin Dick

President & CEO

Kevin Dick has decades of professional experience in economic, community, and workforce development. He comes to Carolina Small Business Development Fund from the City of Charlotte, North Carolina, where he served as Deputy Director of Economic Development and Assistant Director of Neighborhood and Business Services. Over his career Kevin has held senior positions in the Durham Office of Economic and Workforce, the Durham Workforce Development Board, and the operations department of Workforce One in Broward County, Florida. His accomplishments include developing, implementing, and administering a variety of workforce development, neighborhood-based economic development, and small business capacity-building programs. Initiatives under Kevin’s management have been nationally recognized by the National League of Cities, U.S. Conference of Mayors, Walmart Foundation, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Kevin holds a Masters’ Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Florida Atlantic University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Business from Georgetown University. He has also been designated as a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) by the International Economic Development Council. Originally from Montclair, New Jersey, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter during his spare time.

Krystin Jorgenson has over 25 years of experience working with non-profit organizations. Prior to her work at Carolina Small Business Development Fund, Krystin worked as the Finance Specialist at the WakeMed Foundation in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her long tenure in nonprofit management also includes acting as Controller for the Triangle Community Foundation, headquartered in Durham, North Carolina. Krystin received her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Alfred University in New York. She also holds a North Carolina Certified Public Accountant designation.

Mark Royster manages underwriting, loan servicing, and special assets management for Carolina Small Business Development Fund. He has decades of senior management experience in commercial banking, and most recently served as the Vice President of Credit Administration for Mechanics and Farmers Bank. Mark is a graduate of the Wharton School’s ABA Stonier Graduate Banking Program. He is a veteran and was proud to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps.

Lori Diaz*

VP, Business Solutions

Lori Diaz manages the Business Solutions division, which works to proactively build relationships with small business owners. The division's focus is on helping those that currently have financing through CSBDF by closing knowledge gaps and creating comprehensive technical assistance plans. For aspiring entrepreneurs, the division works to help them obtain financing in a sustainable manner. Lori has a breadth of experience in data reporting, compliance management, and community development finance. She previously held senior roles as a Deputy Project Manager with APODEM (a community development financial institution) and as a Logistics Officer with Sanut (the leading producer of agricultural products in the Dominican Republic). Lori received a Bachelor of Arts in Operations Management & Human Resources and a Master of Business Administration from Utah State University. She also holds certificates in Community Development Finance from the University of New Hampshire and Management of Microfinance Institutions from Costa Rica’s INCAE Business School.

Jamie McCall

VP, Policy and Research

Jamie McCall oversees all operations related to research, policy analysis, and program evaluation. His work spotlights the importance of small and medium-sized businesses for sustainable and effective regional growth via peer-reviewed research, organizational white papers, and presentations at high impact regional/national conferences. He previously worked as a Senior Research Analyst for North Carolina's nonprofit development entity, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC). His research on topics related to community and economic development have appeared in multiple peer-reviewed scholarly journals including Economic Development Quarterly, Public Administration Review, Social Science Quarterly, and the Journal of Public Policy. Jamie has also authored several academic book chapters on development policy for volumes issued by publishers including Congressional Quarterly Press. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Philosophy from UNC Pembroke and a Master of Public Administration from UNC Chapel Hill’s School of Government.

Emily Stallings oversees fundraising strategy and grant development for Carolina Small Business Development Fund. In this role she leads all initiatives related to grant writing, coordinating event sponsorships for signature events, and managing relationships with institutional donors. Emily’s professional career has been devoted to development work, having previously worked at Duke University’s Office of Development during the Duke Forward capital campaign. Emily received a Master of Public Administration from UNC Chapel Hill's School of Government and two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Spanish from Appalachian State University. She also holds certificates in Community Development Finance (University New Hampshire), Nonprofit Management (Duke University), and Grant Writing (University of Richmond).

Zurilma Anuel serves as the Latino Program Director. In her position, she directs the Latino Program, underwrites loans and provides one-on-one training and business coaching. Prior to coming to Carolina Small Business Development Fund, Zuri worked as a business lender and Latino Program coordinator for Mountain BizWorks. Zuri also worked for Wells Fargo as a personal banker for 11 years. Zuri earned a bachelor’s degree in commercial and financial administration from Central University of Caracas. She also holds certificates in economic development finance and business credit analysis.

Interim Director, Western Women's Business Center

For over a decade, Tara Jeanne Brown has worked through nonprofits and government to build opportunity for people left behind economically. A native of West Virginia, Tara now lives in Asheville, NC where she serves as Interim Director of the Western Women’s Business Center. Prior to this, Tara developed financial empowerment programming for the City of New York, where she worked across city agencies to support new immigrants, job seekers, entrepreneurs, public housing residents, and many other New Yorkers through one-on-one financial counseling services. Prior to this role, she worked for Richard Cordray, who served as the first Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director, while he was Ohio Attorney General and Ohio Treasurer. At the Ohio Treasurer’s Office, Tara established a savings incentive program and revitalized a small business lending program, both funded through the Ohio Treasury’s linked deposit fund. At the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Tara also established programs to support small businesses. Tara holds a Masters of Public Policy and Administration from Northwestern University and a B.A. in Political Science from Trinity College in Hartford, CT.

Prior to CSBDF, Tameka has a total of 15 years of banking experience of which 12 of those years were of SBA experience. Angela brings a wealth of business ownership experience and knowledge in entrepreneurship, managing a business, accounting, and more. Angela is also a Veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Gulf War (Desert Shield and Desert Storm).
