President & CEO

Kevin Dick has decades of professional experience in economic, community, and workforce development. He comes to Carolina Small Business Development Fund from the City of Charlotte, North Carolina, where he served as Deputy Director of Economic Development and Assistant Director of Neighborhood and Business Services. Over his career Kevin has held senior positions in the Durham Office of Economic and Workforce, the Durham Workforce Development Board, and the operations department of Workforce One in Broward County, Florida. His accomplishments include developing, implementing, and administering a variety of workforce development, neighborhood-based economic development, and small business capacity-building programs. Initiatives under Kevin’s management have been nationally recognized by the National League of Cities, U.S. Conference of Mayors, Walmart Foundation, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Kevin holds a Masters’ Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Florida Atlantic University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Business from Georgetown University. He has also been designated as a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) by the International Economic Development Council. Originally from Montclair, New Jersey, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter during his spare time.

Krystin Jorgenson has over 25 years of experience working with non-profit organizations. Prior to her work at Carolina Small Business Development Fund, Krystin worked as the Finance Specialist at the WakeMed Foundation in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her long tenure in nonprofit management also includes acting as Controller for the Triangle Community Foundation, headquartered in Durham, North Carolina. Krystin received her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Alfred University in New York. She also holds a North Carolina Certified Public Accountant designation.

Mark Royster, Jr.

Vice President, Chief Credit Officer

Mark Royster manages underwriting, loan servicing, and special assets management for Carolina Small Business Development Fund. He has decades of senior management experience in commercial banking, and most recently served as the Vice President of Credit Administration for Mechanics and Farmers Bank. Mark is a graduate of the Wharton School’s ABA Stonier Graduate Banking Program. He is a veteran and was proud to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps.

Joe Battle

Vice President, Business Services

Joe Battle’s career has been devoted to helping small businesses succeed through fostering a spirit of entrepreneurship. He furthers that role currently as Carolina Small Business Development Fund's Vice President of Business Services. In this position, he is responsible for working with potential and existing borrowers by providing business services, coaching, and other resources to help them succeed. Prior to his current role, Joe was a business counselor for the Small Business Technology Center. He is also the co-founder and principal of Success 360i, a digital marketing agency. Joe obtained his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from Duke University.

Jamie McCall

Vice President, Policy and Research

Jamie McCall helps maintain Carolina Small Business Development Fund’s position as a leader in economic development research. As part of that role he conducts analyses which spotlight the importance of small and medium-sized businesses for sustainable and effective regional growth. He previously worked for North Carolina's nonprofit development entity, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, as a Senior Research Analyst. His research on topics related to community and economic development have appeared in multiple peer-reviewed scholarly journals including Economic Development Quarterly, Public Administration Review, and Social Science Quarterly. In addition, he has authored several academic book chapters on development policy for volumes issued by publishers including Congressional Quarterly Press. Jamie holds a Master of Public Administration degree from UNC Chapel Hill’s School of Government and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Philosophy, and Religion, summa cum laude, from UNC Pembroke.

Lori Diaz*

Compliance Officer & Special Initiatives Manager

Lori Diaz serves as Compliance Officer and Special Initiatives Manager. Her work purview includes all aspects of Carolina Small Business Development Fund’s data reporting and compliance management. She previously held a senior role as a Deputy Project Manager with APODEM, a community development financial institution. Her passion is helping provide financial assistance and training to small business owners who experience barriers to accessing capital. She brings a diverse array of business management expertise to Carolina Small Business, having also worked as a Logistics Officer at Sanut, a leading producer of agricultural products in the Dominican Republic. Lori received a Bachelor of Arts in Operations Management & Human Resources and a Master of Business Administration from Utah State University. She also holds certificates in Community Development Finance from the University of New Hampshire and Management of Microfanance Institutions from Costa Rica’s INCAE Business School.

Emily Stallings oversees fundraising strategy and grant development for Carolina Small Business Development Fund. In this role she leads all initiatives related to grant writing, coordinating event sponsorships for signature events, and managing relationships with institutional donors. Emily’s professional career has been devoted to development work, having previously worked at Duke University’s Office of Development during the Duke Forward capital campaign. Emily received a Master of Public Administration from UNC Chapel Hill's School of Government and two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Spanish from Appalachian State University. She also holds certificates in Community Development Finance (University New Hampshire), Nonprofit Management (Duke University), and Grant Writing (University of Richmond).

Zurilma Anuel serves as the Latino Program Director. In her position, she directs the Latino Program, underwrites loans and provides one-on-one training and business coaching. Prior to coming to Carolina Small Business Development Fund, Zuri worked as a business lender and Latino Program coordinator for Mountain BizWorks. Zuri also worked for Wells Fargo as a personal banker for 11 years. Zuri earned a bachelor’s degree in commercial and financial administration from Central University of Caracas. She also holds certificates in economic development finance and business credit analysis.

WWBC Interim Director

For over a decade, Tara Jeanne Brown has worked through nonprofits and government to build opportunity for people left behind economically. A native of West Virginia, Tara now lives in Asheville, NC where she serves as Interim Director of the Western Women’s Business Center. Prior to this, Tara developed financial empowerment programming for the City of New York, where she worked across city agencies to support new immigrants, job seekers, entrepreneurs, public housing residents, and many other New Yorkers through one-on-one financial counseling services. Prior to this role, she worked for Richard Cordray, who served as the first Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director, while he was Ohio Attorney General and Ohio Treasurer. At the Ohio Treasurer’s Office, Tara established a savings incentive program and revitalized a small business lending program, both funded through the Ohio Treasury’s linked deposit fund. At the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Tara also established programs to support small businesses. Tara holds a Masters of Public Policy and Administration from Northwestern University and a B.A. in Political Science from Trinity College in Hartford, CT.

Shannon Baylor-Henderson is the Director of the Carolina Small Business Development Fund’s Eastern Women’s Entrepreneurship Center (EWEC) in partnership with Elizabeth City State University. Shannon provides technical assistance for prospective loan applicants in addition to developing, implementing, and evaluating training programs and events for small business owners across CSBDF’s Northeastern North Carolina region. An entrepreneur-turned-employee, Shannon’s background includes owning and operating a writing company for over thirteen years. Shannon is a native of Washington, DC, an award-winning author and an avid blogger.

Ron Fisher serves as Business Development Officer for Carolina Small Business Development Fund. He is responsible for business development for the 10 counties representing the Charlotte Metro area and the entire State of South Carolina. Prior to his current role, he operated his own consulting firm for 12 years providing business coaching and financial consulting services to financial institutions and non-profit economic development organizations in North and South Carolina. His commercial banking background includes community development lending, affordable housing program management and small business lending responsibilities for First Union National Bank (now Wells Fargo). He is a graduate of NC Central University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Mic Alexander serves as Business Adviser for the Southwest region. Prior to joining Carolina Small Business Development Fund, she was a serial entrepreneur for more than 30 years. Her past leadership roles include serving as the former CEO of The Overflow Corporation – a manufacturing company - for 17 years and President of Image Wealth Management – a leadership development training company - for 10 years. She is one of the first United States Citizens to be certified in Emotional Intelligence (EI) by the International Society for Emotional Intelligence (ISEI). She received her process/coaching certification from the Advanced Coaching and Leadership Center. Ms. Alexander has received numerous business awards including the Chamber’s Entrepreneur of the Year, the Business Journal’s Women in Business Award and the Largest Minority Business Award to name a few. She is a member of the International Society for Emotional Intelligence, a founding member of the Foundation for the Carolinas' Women’s Impact Fund, the McColl Innovation Institute and a guest teacher at UNC Charlotte Belk College of Business.

Meryl Olson serves as Carolina Small Business Development Fund’s Finance Manager She brings with her an array of accounting experience. She was responsible for Accounts Receivables and various other task at the Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities. Carlton G. Stephen serves as Special Assets Manager for Carolina Small Business Development Fund. Carlton has just under 40 years of experience working in banking in commercial lending, credit and branch administration. Prior to CSBDF, Carlton worked as a Regional Vice President for Liberty Bank and Trust in Jackson, MS and prior to that, he worked several consulting contracts at M & F Bank in Durham, NC. Jameko Pinder acts as both a Staff Accountant and Assistant Compliance Officer for Carolina Small Business Development Fund. He also performs a variety of technical accounting support functions including accounts payable, adjusting journal entries, and bank reconciliations. Jameko began his career as an intern with CSBDF.
