Discovery Chiropractic and Wellness Center, PLLC.

latanya2Dr. LaTanya Bowman is the owner of Discovery Chiropractic and Wellness Center, PLLC, in Charlotte, NC.

Aside from being a chiropractor, Dr. Bowman is a successful entrepreneur with a mission to serve her community through chiropractic care and sports medicine.  She utilizes her knowledge and skills to help patients maintain their optimal health and well-being.

We talked with Dr. Bowman and she shared with us how her passion to start her own business started!

CSBDF: How did your business get started? What inspired it?
Dr. Bowman: I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur and work for myself. When I found the opportunity to open my own practice, and realized that I actually had the funds to do it on my own, it inspired me to move forward working towards my dreams and goals. I took all of my savings, including my retirement 401(k) and just went for it. Initially it has been risky, but the risk is well worth the reward, especially when I see the relief that I can provide to my patients.

CSBDF: What made you decide to open your business? How did you choose the type of business to open?
Dr. Bowman: To me, the type of business I needed to open was a no-brainer because I always have worked in chiropractic offices, where I was running the practice on my own, or worked in a successful mega clinic. These experiences allowed me to see the proper blueprint and format for me to successfully run my own practice. I will be forever grateful for those opportunities. In school, they don’t necessarily focus on the aspects of running a business, they focus on how to be a doctor, so I had to learn that outside of the classroom. I was blessed enough to recognize where I wanted to be and have the necessary support systems to encourage the pursuit of my dream and passion.

CSBDF: Where do you see your business going in the next five years?
Dr. Bowman: In the next five years, my goal is to expand my practice. Within the next 2 to 3 years, I want to open another practice, and continue to expand my reach. With expansion and growth, I look to continue to expand into different locations and different states, but also maintain the community service aspects on which has been a cornerstone component of the outreach my practice provides.

CSBDF: What is your ultimate goal for your business?
Dr. Bowman: My ultimate goal for my business is to teach people about wellness, in a non-threatening way. I want people to understand and learn the fulfillment of life, and have a better understanding of what chiropractic is and is not. Chiropractic is more than adjustments of the neck and back. It’s about changing your whole entire lifestyle, to make it better. It’s about “Discovering Yourself!”

CSBDF: When you were first getting started as a business owner, who did you turn to for advice?
Dr. Bowman: My faith and my support systems, including my family and friends, have been very helpful in getting me started and continuing my journey. I was also able to connect with my chiropractic classmates that currently own successful businesses. They were able to help me map out what was needed to get started and this has benefited me tremendously. I draw inspiration from unlimited sources and appreciate all that I learn from others.

CSBDF: How do you define success in your life?
Dr. Bowman: Defining success, for me, is connected to my faith. You must have faith, in yourself and God. You cannot be successful, unless you step out on faith and believe in yourself. Helping others and the feedback they give you, also allows you to understand the purpose of the work you do.

CSBDF: What are the most difficult challenges you face?
Dr. Bowman: Learning how to have patience can be very difficult. That’s the hardest thing to do, especially when you want the results to happen quickly, but it takes time to evolve and grow.

CSBDF: How did you hear about CSBDF and how have we helped you?
Dr. Bowman: CSBDF has helped me tremendously, especially in regards to helping me with finances. As a small business owner, you find different things that needs to be done that requires finances that you don’t account for when you’re starting a new business. Without CSBDF, it would more difficult to accomplish the great work that we strive for at Discover and in the community.
